UNIPMA and SMK PGRI 1 Mejayan Synergize to Build Quality Education through Collaborative Student Assessment

As an effort to develop cooperation between educational institutions, the University of PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA) has established a partnership with SMK PGRI 1 Mejayan. One of them is the implementation of the Odd Semester Assessment by involving academics from UNIPMA lecturers as examiners. SMK PGRI 1 Mejayan is indeed different from other schools, where other schools still carry out exams every six months, at SMK PGRI 1 Mejayan carry out exams every four months. This is because the learning system at SMK PGRI 1 Mejayan for the categories of basic skills and competency skills must be completed for two years through passport skills, and professional skills are completed for one year when students are in class XII through internships in industry.

This is proof that the implementation of the independent curriculum has been implemented at SMK PGRI 1 Mejayan. This is done to ensure the quality of graduates from SMK PGRI 1 Mejayan and improve the quality of learning. "This assessment model by involving a team of lecturers is a manifestation of the commitment of SMK PGRI 1 Mejayan in shaping the mental and competence of students in realizing quality and sustainable education," said Sampun Hadam (Head of SMK PGRI 1 Mejayan).

This collaboration starts from the coordination stage between subject teachers and partner lecturers, determining the schedule and technical assessment, implementing the assessment, evaluating and reflecting on the results of the assessment. In addition to carrying out the assessment process, a discussion session was also held to discuss the results of the assessment from the aspect of students' abilities and the ability of teachers in the learning process.

The teacher and the lecturer reflect on what are the obstacles and weaknesses to produce innovative solutions and strategies for the development of further assessments. “Suggestions and input from the lecturer team really helped us in efforts to improve the learning process. One example from the science field is that lecturers help in designing what practicums will be tested on students,” said Nastiti Rahayu (coordinator teacher for mathematics and science assessments).

The existence of examiners from outside the school can increase the enthusiasm and motivation of students in learning and understanding concepts in theory and practice. Students are more challenged and gain new insights from the academic world. Linda Yuhanna, UNIPMA lecturer as one of the examiners in the field of Science said that "This program is very relevant and innovative to improve the skills of vocational students. Hopefully this program can inspire and become a pioneer for other schools". UNIPMA also hopes that this synergy will continue to be carried out through various other relevant programs.
