Magic of Sawdust Waste Becomes a Blessing During a Pandemic 

Thursday, July 15, 2021. UNIPMA students are constantly innovating during the pandemic. The PKMK team consisting of Rukma Nur Kumalasari, Pamelia Nuryatman, Mila Eviana and Siska Andriani transformed sawdust waste into products of artistic value. This idea originated from concern to see piles of sawdust that are increasingly piled up and smelly in the rainy season. Sawdust is a very abundant raw material that comes from wood processing and is underutilized. Most of this sawdust waste is just piled up and left to rot.

Sawdust can be reused into several potential products. Utilization of sawdust waste that can be used as pots. The PKMK team at PGRI Madiun University created a Light Character Potty Sawdust product that combines the concept of a pot from sawdust waste with popular cartoon character designs. "We deliberately use the concept of popular cartoons, in order to attract the public's interest, bringing a funny, sweet and lively impression," said Rukma.

This waste product really challenges the creativity of the millennial generation to think towards strengthening the creative industry. The Light Character Potty Sawdust is also in accordance with the theme of the millennial generation cafe or outdoor events for garden party ornaments or parties in the park. PKMK making Light Character Potty Sawdust has advantages, namely the materials used can be easily found, the work has an affordable selling price, increases creativity through innovation to make various kinds of characters that can be applied in pots.

Linda Yuhanna as the accompanying lecturer felt proud and applauded for the students' concern for waste and being able to make products of aesthetic value. "I continue to support student activities to become potential start-up businesses for the current millennial generation". Innovation will continue to be carried out in product design, promotion, marketing and management aspects.
