Devoted to the Nation: Becoming a Teacher in the 3T Region

Becoming a bachelor is not enough to only get a degree, but must be supported and supported by competence, commitment, motivation so that scholars are able to develop themselves in the global era like today. Especially when considering the unequal problems of education in Indonesia, a degree alone will not solve these problems. It takes determination, mental, even material to overcome it.

In the 3rd day alumni debriefing session, prospective undergraduate students were given lots of useful motivations from extraordinary sources. One of them came from Wahyu Kurniawan, S.Pd, an alumni of Universitas PGRI Madiun from Physics Education who shared his experiences as a teacher in the 3T area, precisely at SMP N 1 Ilaga, Papua.

The most important educational problems in the 3T area include the lack of teaching staff, very inadequate facilities and infrastructure, low quality of education, and unfavorable conditions and culture. However, this is not a barrier to Wahyu Kurniawan, according to Wahyu Kurniawan, this is a challenge that must be overcome one by one. How a teacher must deal with cultural differences and teach with limited facilities and infrastructure. This is where competence, commitment, motivation and the ability to develop oneself are needed.

"When you become an educator in the 3T area, apart from the things above, you have to prepare mental, material and learning tools," said Wahyu Kurniawan (3/9). "Apart from that, as educators, they must also be able to understand the shortcomings of students, not to force students to study but to be guided and motivated to continue learning," he added.
