Supporting Indonesia–Thailand International Classes, UNIPMA Develops a Digital EMI Ecosystem

UNIPMA – Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA) is developing a digital English Medium Instruction (EMI) ecosystem to support the implementation of international classes through an Indonesia–Thailand collaborative research initiative. This development takes the form of a website providing information and learning support for lecturers in preparing English-medium courses.

The research, entitled “Development of a Digital EMI Ecosystem to Support International Classes: An Indonesia–Thailand Collaborative Study,” is part of the UNIPMA 2026 Competitive Research Program.

The research team was initiated by Dr. Sri Lestari, M.Pd., from the Primary School Teacher Education Study Program (PGSD), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), UNIPMA. The team also includes Rizqi Hussaini, M.Pd., from the Management Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), UNIPMA, and Dr. Kiki Juli Anggoro, M.Ed., from the School of Education and Liberal Arts, Walailak University, Thailand. Two UNIPMA students also participated in the research: Muhammad Nur Iqbal Sidrotul from the Information Systems Study Program and Evionita Eka Putri from the PGSD Study Program.

Dr. Sri Lestari, M.Pd., explained that the research was initiated in response to lecturers’ needs when preparing to deliver courses in English through English Medium Instruction (EMI).

“This research identified several key needs among lecturers, including course plan preparation, the development of learning media to support students’ understanding, and the selection of strategies to enhance student engagement in EMI classrooms,” she stated on Saturday (October 31).

To address these needs, the team adopted a Research and Development (R&D) approach. The stages included needs identification, product design, website development, and evaluation and refinement based on the feedback received. The resulting platform can be accessed through the UNIPMA Partnership and Public Relations Bureau (BKH) website at https://bkh.aksarainter.tech/about.

This research also forms part of UNIPMA’s efforts to strengthen academic partnerships with international higher education institutions. Several international partners that have established collaborations with UNIPMA include National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (YunTech), Taiwan; Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) and Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC), the Philippines; Thaksin University and Hatyai University, Thailand; and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia.

Through these collaborations, UNIPMA promotes the exchange of knowledge, technology, and human resources in education and research. The development of the digital EMI ecosystem is expected to enhance lecturers’ readiness to conduct international classes while expanding the implementation of the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi) through cross-border partnerships.
