UNIPMA and Central Mindanao University Discuss Research Collaboration on VO₂Max Analysis of East Java Modern Pentathlon Athletes
Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA), in collaboration with Central Mindanao University (CMU), Philippines, held an international research cooperation meeting focusing on VO₂Max analysis of Modern Pentathlon Indonesia (MPI) athletes at the East Java provincial level. The meeting was conducted online via Google Meet on Monday (22/6).
The Head of UNIPMA’s Bureau of Cooperation and Public Relations, Dr. Sri Lestari, M.Pd., stated that the meeting marked an initial step in strengthening international research collaboration between the two universities in the fields of sports science and athlete health.
“This collaboration is directed toward strengthening joint research, particularly in measuring the VO₂Max capacity of Modern Pentathlon athletes in East Java, as well as developing international scientific publications,” she said.
The meeting discussed a research project titled “Comprehensive Analysis of VO₂Max of Indonesian Modern Pentathlon (MPI) Athletes at East Java Province Level.” The study focuses on analyzing athletes’ physical condition through VO₂Max measurements as an indicator of cardiovascular endurance.
UNIPMA delegates included Dr. Ardyansyah Arief Budi Utomo, S.Pd., M.Pd., AIFO-P as the main presenter, along with Dr. Sri Lestari, Agung Dwi Darmawan, S.Pd., M.Pd., Ghon Lisdiantoro, S.Pd., M.Or., Ahmad Dayan, and Asad Syamsul. Meanwhile, CMU representatives included Ms. Hannah Lovelle R. Abiabi, Dr. Pamela Christine H. Escañer, Dr. Angeline T. Limocon, Prof. Crispin S. Quilang, Prof. Genifer C. Ramoso, and Ms. Dianne L. Salvaleon.
In their presentation, the research team explained three Modern Pentathlon disciplines included in the study: Biathle, Triathle, and Laser Run.
Biathle combines running and swimming in a run–swim–run format designed to measure athletes’ endurance and transition ability. Triathle combines running, shooting, and swimming to test shooting accuracy under physical pressure. Meanwhile, Laser Run combines running and laser pistol shooting, focusing on the balance between speed and precision.
In addition to discussing the sports disciplines, UNIPMA and CMU also addressed technical and managerial aspects of the research, including proposal alignment, field data collection methods, research timelines, and task distribution among research teams.
The researchers also discussed the target outcome of publishing scientific articles in reputable international journals. Funding arrangements for the research will be discussed further in the next meeting.
As a follow-up, UNIPMA and CMU also plan to develop a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) as the legal basis for implementing the international research collaboration.
