Industrial Engineering Study Program at UNIPMA Establishes Collaboration and Benchmarking with UMS Industrial Engineering

UNIPMA – The Industrial Engineering Study Program of Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA), together with the Industrial Engineering Student Community (KMTI), conducted a comparative study and benchmarking visit to the Industrial Engineering Study Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) on Wednesday (3/6).

The activity was accompanied by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) and an Implementation Agreement (IA) between the Faculty of Engineering and the Industrial Engineering Study Programs of both universities.

This visit aimed to strengthen academic networking, share best practices in study program management, and broaden the perspectives of the academic community regarding the development of Industrial Engineering education.

The UNIPMA Industrial Engineering delegation was led by the Head of the Industrial Engineering Study Program, Aloysius Tommy Hendrawan, S.T., M.T., accompanied by KMTI Advisor Aan Zainal Muttaqin, S.T., M.T., IPP., along with lecturers, administrative staff, and students.

In an interview, Aloysius Tommy Hendrawan, S.T., M.T., stated that the comparative study was conducted as an effort to evaluate and improve the quality of the study program through benchmarking with a more developed institution.

“The comparative study aims to broaden insights, gain new experiences, and compare institutional systems and performance as materials for evaluation and organizational quality improvement,” he said.

He explained that the series of activities included the signing of the MoA and IA, welcoming remarks from both institutions, discussions among lecturers and students, as well as laboratory visits within the UMS Industrial Engineering environment.

The event began with an opening session at the 7th Floor of the Siti Walidah Building at UMS. During the event, the UNIPMA Industrial Engineering delegation was welcomed by lecturers and administrative staff from the UMS Industrial Engineering Study Program.

Furthermore, both institutions held benchmarking and discussion sessions to discuss study program management, learning implementation, student activities, and strategies for improving academic quality and educational services.

The discussions were interactive, featuring exchanges of ideas and experiences related to curriculum development, study program governance, and student competency improvement.

In addition, participants joined laboratory tours of several UMS Industrial Engineering facilities, including the Work Systems and Manufacturing Laboratory and the Logistics and Computing Laboratory.

Through the visit, students had the opportunity to learn about various equipment, systems, and practicum activities supporting Industrial Engineering education. The students showed great enthusiasm during discussion sessions regarding the implementation of laboratory facilities in learning and research processes.

Aloysius Tommy Hendrawan, S.T., M.T., added that the collaboration between UNIPMA and UMS is also directed toward strengthening the tridharma of higher education, including education and teaching, research, community service, accreditation assistance, laboratory collaboration, and the development of student activities.

“This collaboration serves as momentum for both institutions to strengthen the quality of study program management, including the efforts of the UNIPMA Industrial Engineering Study Program to learn preparations for achieving the national superior accreditation standard from LAMTEK and projections toward international accreditation through IABEE,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, a representative of UNIPMA Industrial Engineering students, Rama, stated that the activity provided new experiences for students to learn about the management of an excellent study program and industrial practices in complete and adequate laboratories.

“We hope that the UNIPMA Industrial Engineering Study Program can compete with other universities and produce graduates who are ready to directly enter the industrial world,” he said.

Through this comparative study and benchmarking activity, the Industrial Engineering Study Programs of UNIPMA and UMS are expected to gain benefits in developing academic aspects, governance, and strengthening student competencies, while also reinforcing synergy between the two universities in improving the quality of higher education in the field of Industrial Engineering.
