Industrial Internship Program Encourages UNIPMA Chemical Engineering Students to Understand Real Practices in Companies
Anisa Dwi Lestari and Rima Nurjanah, two students from the Chemical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA), participated in an Industrial Internship Program in the wastewater treatment division of PT SIER PIER Pasuruan, East Java. The internship program lasted for two months, from June 10 to July 31, 2025, under the supervision of internship advisor Dr. Ir. Nur Ihda Farikhatin Nisa, S.T., M.T.
The industrial internship program aims to encourage students to understand real working practices in companies while implementing the knowledge they have gained during their studies. Through this activity, students are invited to understand industrial business and operational processes comprehensively, especially in the field of industrial wastewater treatment.
UNIPMA’s participation in this program also reflects the institution’s commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 on quality education and Goal 17 on partnerships. Strengthening student competencies is expected to improve the quality of human resources who are ready to enter the industrial world, while collaboration with companies serves as a concrete form of partnership between higher education institutions and the professional sector.
During the internship, Anisa Dwi Lestari and Rima Nurjanah were directly involved in checking wastewater quality parameters. The parameters examined included Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), as well as several other pollutant parameters to ensure that the wastewater treatment results met the standards set by the company.
Anisa Dwi Lestari, representing the student interns, stated that the program provided direct working experience in the industrial world. According to her, the experience helped students understand wastewater treatment processes, water quality parameter testing, and the actual operation of wastewater treatment installations.
“Through this internship program, I gained direct working experience in the industrial world, particularly in wastewater treatment, water quality parameter testing, and understanding the operational processes of wastewater treatment installations,” she said on Wednesday (13/5).
She also conveyed that the internship program received full support from the Chemical Engineering Study Program at UNIPMA, both in terms of administrative processes and supervision throughout the program.
Anisa hopes that the internship program will increase her knowledge, experience, and skills in the field of industrial waste treatment. With this experience, she is optimistic that she will be better prepared to face the professional world after completing her higher education.
