PGRI University of Madiun (UNIPMA) successfully hosted the Chess sport branch in the National Student Sports and Arts Week (Porsenasma) V 2025. The chess competition was held over three days, from August 3 to 5, 2025, in rooms C403 to C405, 4th floor of the UNIPMA campus.

A total of 26 participants, consisting of 14 male and 12 female athletes from various PGRI universities across Indonesia, showcased their strategies on the chessboard. The matches followed a 4-round preliminary system, with the top four scorers advancing to the semifinal and final rounds.

Match coordinator Moh. Ubaidillah, S.Pd., M.Si., CSRS, explained that the competition system was designed to ensure tight competition while upholding the values of sportsmanship. "From the four preliminary rounds, we selected the top four participants based on points to advance to the semifinals and finals. We aim to create a healthy competitive atmosphere and discover the best athletes," he said.

Interestingly, all matches were officiated by nationally licensed referees who also had experience as athletes in the SEA Games, adding to the tournament's quality and credibility.

Moh. Ubaidillah, S.Pd., M.Si., CSRS, hopes that this year's Porsenasma chess branch will be the starting point for the emergence of talented athletes who are not only strong in strategy but also uphold fair play and the spirit of sportsmanship. "Through this event, we hope to discover outstanding talents who can achieve even greater accomplishments at national and international levels," he concluded.
