Embracing Javanese Philosophy, UNIPMA Accounting Student Wins KLTI UI Competition

Rizky Arum Pertiwi, a student from the Accounting Study Program at Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA), has successfully achieved an impressive accomplishment at the Lomba Karya Tulis Ilmiah (LKTI) PPIA competition organized by the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at the University of Indonesia (UI). Rizky triumphed with an innovative paper that highlighted local wisdom as an approach to sustainable development.

This competition is a prestigious event attended by students from various universities across Indonesia, particularly from postgraduate accounting programs. With the theme “Accounting for Greater Benefits,” this event encourages students to present fresh and practical ideas for the development of accounting science.

Rizky Arum Pertiwi developed a paper titled "Strengthening Sustainability Accounting through the Internalization of the Gemi, Nastiti, Ngati-ngati Philosophy." In her work, she combines Javanese local values with a sustainability accounting approach, which is currently a key focus in the era of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“I developed this work by looking at how Javanese philosophies such as gemi (thrift), nastiti (careful), and ngati-ngati (cautious) can contribute to sustainable accounting practices,” Rizky said during an interview on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.

In the process of preparing her paper, Rizky was guided by her mentor, Nik Amah, S.E., M.Si., CTT., CSRS, S.E., M.Si., who provided direction and support throughout the competition preparation.

Although this was her first experience participating in a scientific writing competition, Rizky admitted she initially felt confused about how to start the writing process. However, her passion for sharing beneficial ideas helped her overcome this challenge.

She hopes that the paper she developed will not only serve as a competition requirement but also become an educational resource and inspiration for many. “I hope this work can provide benefits, broaden perspectives, and encourage more responsible accounting practices,” she added.

Rizky’s achievement demonstrates that integrating local wisdom with modern scientific knowledge can lead to innovative and valuable ideas. This victory also strengthens UNIPMA’s position as a university that actively supports students in developing their academic potential and making real contributions to society.
