Enhancing Bioentrepreneur Spirit, Biology Education UNIPMA Invites Practitioners in the Field of Organic Fertilizers

The development of an entrepreneurial spirit is needed to equip graduates of the Biology Education study program who are intelligent and competitive. Various activities were held as an effort to train students' entrepreneurial spirit, one of which was by presenting practitioners. In 2022, the Biology Education study program received a grant from the Independent Campus Competition Program (PKKM) to hold workshops and assistance in making organic fertilizer as a potential bioentrepreneurship product. The current need for fertilizer opens up promising opportunities for agricultural and ornamental plant businesses. "Currently, organic fertilizers have opportunities and their market share is good and stable, so we present practitioners to provide material and motivate students to become entrepreneurs," said Joko Widiyanto, Head of Study Program and PIC of the activity.

This organic fertilizer production workshop and assistance was held on Wednesday (14/12/2022) at the Biology Education laboratory. This activity was attended by students and lecturers. The speaker presented was Mr. Pamuji Rahayu from the chairman of the Mulyo Sejati Farmers Group, Puntukdoro Village, Magetan Regency. This practitioner is very competent in the manufacture of organic fertilizers on an industrial scale. Pamuji Rahayu is a partner in various community service activities for the UNIPMA Biology Education lecturer. The material presented was related to the manufacture of compost, fertilizer in the form of granules, liquid fertilizer and other planting media formulations. "We have developed organic fertilizers to the level of commercialization on an industrial scale, students can practice directly in our production house as strengthening workshop materials." said Pamuji Rahayu.

The result of this activity is that students are able to make various forms of organic fertilizer. Students also explore many sources of materials from household waste. So that it does not only produce products and profits, but also leads to eco-friendly organic waste management. "Innovation in processing waste into organic fertilizer aside from having potential as a business start-up, can also make students as environmental ambassadors in society to process waste," said Dr. W. Linda Yuhanna as accompanying lecturer.

The speaker also conveyed the business strategy in product marketing and market share. Pamuji Rahayu also said that students could become business partners of the Mulyo Sejati Farmers Group in providing organic fertilizer requests from farmers outside the region. "After the workshop, I became motivated to make organic fertilizer and planting media, because the process is simple, the market share is stable and consumer demand is increasing," said Natasya, one of the training participants. Joko Widiyanto as the Head of the Biology Education Study Program hopes that students can start innovative and creative businesses as an implementation of the scientific field of Biology Education.
