UNIPMA – Dr. Fitra Pinandhita, M.Pd., a lecturer in the English Education Study Program at Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA), was one of the featured speakers at the 5th Seminar on English Education, Literatures & Linguistics (ELITICS) 2026, held online via Zoom on Monday (July 27). Organized by the Department of English Education at UNIPMA, this year's seminar carried the theme "Artificial Intelligence in Education: Innovation, Ethics, and Digital Transformation."

In addition to Dr. Fitra Pinandhita, the seminar featured Rimajon Sotlikova, Ph.D., from New Uzbekistan University and Webster University in Tashkent, as well as Dr. Wardani Dwi Wihastyanang, S.Pd., M.Pd., from Universitas PGRI Jombang. The three speakers discussed various approaches to leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support teaching and learning processes.

During his presentation, Dr. Fitra Pinandhita highlighted the use of AI to strengthen literacy and numeracy skills, two essential competencies for 21st-century learning. "Numeracy is not merely about performing calculations; it is the ability to use data to make logical decisions," he explained.

To deepen participants' understanding, he invited them to analyze a case study by comparing two cities based on living costs, education, and transportation. Participants then transformed their analyses into data-driven recommendations and visualized the results in AI-assisted posters, making the information more accessible and easier to understand.

Dr. Fitra also demonstrated how AI can be utilized to enhance literacy instruction. Participants were introduced to AI-powered tools such as ChatGPT to simplify folktales according to students' age levels, develop Socratic questioning activities, generate story illustrations, and document prompts along with the outputs produced throughout the learning process.

"AI can help educators create more interactive and contextual learning experiences," he said.

Through this approach, participants were encouraged to design learning activities that foster critical thinking, data analysis, creativity, and evidence-based decision-making. "AI is a tool that supports educators, not a substitute for them in the learning process," he emphasized.

ELITICS 2026 was attended by academics, lecturers, students, researchers, and practitioners from various higher education institutions.

Dr. Fitra Pinandhita expressed his hope that AI would be implemented wisely in education to support more effective learning without diminishing the role of educators. "Technology should be used responsibly to strengthen the quality of learning and enhance students' competencies," he concluded.
