UNIPMA Deptics Mobile Legends Tournament Provides a Platform for Students to Develop Esports Talent
UNIPMA — The Department of Informatics Student Association, or Department of Informatics (Deptics), Faculty of Engineering (FT), Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA), organized a Mobile Legends: Bang Bang tournament for high school, vocational high school, and Islamic senior high school (MAN) students across the Madiun Residency. The competition served as a platform for students to develop their gaming skills through a competitive and achievement-oriented event.
The tournament, initiated by Deptics UNIPMA through its Web and Sports Division, was held in two stages. The preliminary round took place online on August 28, 2026, followed by the offline round and final on August 29, 2026, at the Auditorium on the fourth floor of the Engineering Building at the PGRI Madiun Campus.
A total of 20 participant slots were provided for high school, vocational high school, and equivalent MAN students in the Madiun Residency. Participants first competed online before the qualifying teams continued the competition in person at the auditorium.
Jonathan Alfa Grace Juliantio, a representative of the Informatics Engineering Program at UNIPMA, said the tournament was a new work program initiated by the student association in collaboration with lecturers and was expected to continue as an annual event.
“We hope this tournament can become a platform for high school and vocational high school students to achieve success,” Jonathan said.
According to him, the event also provided students with an opportunity to gain competitive experience through gaming activities. Skills that were previously developed as a form of entertainment could be further developed through matches conducted under structured systems and rules.
In addition, the tournament was part of Deptics UNIPMA’s efforts to introduce the Informatics Engineering Study Program to prospective students. Participants from various schools across the Madiun Residency had the opportunity to become familiar with the campus environment as well as the activities of Informatics Engineering students through the competition.
The event was supervised by Saifulloh, S.Kom., M.Kom., a lecturer in Informatics Engineering at UNIPMA. The tournament was organized by Deptics through its Web and Sports Division.
The competition results placed SMAN 1 Ngawi in first place, while SMAN 2 Mejayan secured both second and third places.
The organizers hope that the tournament can continue to be developed and held annually. Beyond serving as a competitive platform, the event is expected to help students channel their interest in esports into activities that provide valuable experience and opportunities for achievement.
