UNIPMA — Students from the Pancasila and Civic Education (PPKn) Study Program at Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA), Intan Dwi Pratiwi, Nabila Naja Hafizha Emelia Wandera, and Meyra Aisabrina Sintanirawat, won second place in a traditional dance competition organized by the Association of Indonesian Pancasila and Civic Education Professionals (AP3KnI) Central Java.

The three students performed the Solah Madiunan Dance in the competition, which was held online on June 22. The dance was selected because it is one of Madiun’s traditional dances and features movements that reflect the identity of the region as the City of Warriors.

Intan said the selection of the Solah Madiunan Dance was in accordance with the competition requirements, which required participants to perform a traditional dance following established traditional forms. In addition, the dance was considered closely connected to the regional identity of their university.

“We chose the Solah Madiunan Dance because it is a traditional dance from Madiun, with movements that reflect the characteristics of the City of Warriors,” Intan said on Friday (August 28).

In the competition, participants presented their performances through video recordings submitted online. The event provided an opportunity for students from various universities to demonstrate their abilities in developing and performing traditional dance.

For Intan and her team, participating in the competition was not solely about achieving a winning result. They also wanted to introduce the Solah Madiunan Dance to a wider audience.

“We hope that through this competition, the Solah Madiunan Dance, which is popular in Madiun, can become more widely known,” Intan said.

She added that participating in the competition also provided an opportunity for them to develop their skills and gain new experience in traditional dance.

The Solah Madiunan Dance was chosen because it represents elements of Madiun’s local culture. Through their performance, the three PPKn students from UNIPMA brought the region’s traditional art into a competition involving students from various universities.

The second-place achievement also reflects the students’ involvement in activities beyond academic learning, particularly in the fields of arts and culture. Participating in the competition required the students to work together in preparing the concept, practicing, and producing a performance recording in accordance with the competition requirements.
