BPBD Madiun Hosts Earthquake and Animal Rescue Education for UNIPMA Students

Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA) partnered with the Madiun City Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to organize an educational event on earthquake preparedness and animal rescue for students. The event took place on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the Integrated Laboratory of UNIPMA and was attended by the Student Regiment (Menwa) and students involved in the Personal Development Program at UNIPMA.

The goal of this event was to raise awareness among students about disaster preparedness, particularly in the case of earthquakes, as well as to provide guidance on how to rescue themselves from animal attacks, such as those from snakes. The event was graced by Dr. Elva Nuraina, S.E., M.Si. (Vice Rector I of UNIPMA), Arri Kurniawan, S.S., M.Pd. (Head of Student Affairs BKM UNIPMA), and students participating in the personal development program.

According to Achmad Muhrodhi Rofiq, the Vice Commander of Menwa UNIPMA, the session offered a deeper understanding of disaster preparedness, covering actions before, during, and after an earthquake. The event also emphasized the importance of knowledge in protecting oneself from animal threats like snakes, which are common hazards in disaster-prone areas.

“Through this event, we hope students will be better prepared and know what to do when faced with disasters. From evacuation during an earthquake to dealing with threats like snake bites, this training provides essential survival skills,” Rofiq explained during an interview on Monday, November 25, 2024.

The training was led by BPBD Madiun officials, who delivered practical information on disaster risk reduction and emergency response. Students were also trained on the correct procedures for handling earthquake situations and how to respond to emergencies caused by animal bites or attacks.

The goal of this initiative was to ensure students develop better preparedness in handling emergency situations. With the knowledge gained, it is hoped that students will be able to protect themselves and others during disasters, whether it involves earthquakes or animal threats. This event also aimed to raise awareness about the importance of disaster response education and training for young people.
