As a speaker at Madiun Kota Police Station, Dr Fitra Pinandhita, M.Pd: Emphasising the Importance of Communication Ethics 

PGRI Madiun University (UNIPMA) lecturer, Dr. Fitra Pinandhita, M.Pd., became a speaker in the work programme of the Madiun Kota Police in accordance with the order of the Head of the Madiun Kota Resort Police Number: Sprin/571/II/REN. 2.3/2024 dated 21 February 2024 concerning the Working Group Team. The event was held on Tuesday, 10/09/2024, yesterday at the Sunaryo Building of the Madiun City Police Station and was attended by police ranks.

On this occasion, Dr Fitra Pinandhita, M.Pd., presented material on ‘Communication Ethics and Digital Communication’ which aims to strengthen the ability of police members to communicate with the public effectively and ethically, both face-to-face and virtual digital.

Dr Fitra Pinandhita, M.Pd. emphasised the importance of communication ethics in an effort to increase public trust and transparency in the midst of an era of rapid information development. ‘Communication ethics can build good relations between the police and the community, increase transparency, and maintain accountability in every line of duty,’ said Dr Fitra Pinandhita, M.Pd.

In addition, in crisis situations, communication ethics are considered important to manage the dissemination of information appropriately to avoid miscommunication that can trigger panic. Dr Fitra Pinandhita, M.Pd highlighted the important role of digital communication, which enables better collaboration between the police, government and communities to create more inclusive public safety.

In the digital era, the use of social media platforms also plays a major role in education and counselling related to law, safety, and crime prevention. In this context, Dr Fitra Pinandhita, M.Pd underlined the importance of responsible data management to protect individual privacy and prevent misuse of information.

‘Ethical communication not only reduces conflict between the police and the community, but also upholds open dialogue. This is essential for successful collaboration and shared security,’ he added.

The material presented at this event covered key points related to improving police professionalism in the use of digital media. Some of these included strategies to prevent the spread of hoaxes and misleading information, as well as how to communicate wisely and accurately on digital platforms. Dr Fitra Pinandhita, M.Pd emphasised that the application of communication ethics principles in digital media can help maintain the image of the police in the eyes of the public and strengthen public trust in the police institution.

With the implementation of good communication ethics, it is expected that Polres Madiun Kota can be more responsive, adaptive, and collaborative in carrying out tasks in the community, and better prepared to face challenges in the digital era. Strong collaboration between the police and the community is also expected to create a conducive security atmosphere, free from conflict, and support the creation of a corruption-free zone.

This event is also expected to be a good first step for Polres Madiun Kota in strengthening the values of integrity, transparency, and accountability, in order to create higher quality and professional public services.
