Tilapia Progress in UNIPMA Biological Garden is Safe, Pond Condition Maintained

The Madiun City Food and Agriculture Service conducted periodic checks on the progress of the tilapia biofloc system in the biology garden pond of Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA) on Tuesday, 13/08/2024, yesterday. In this activity, the agency was accompanied by Zainal Arifin, S.Pd, and the Biology Education Student Association (AMPIBI) a Biology Education Study Program Student Association (HMPS) UNIPMA.

This monitoring aims to evaluate the extent to which flocs, a collection of important microorganisms in the biofloc system, have formed and developed in each pond. The thickness and density of the flocs were the main focus; the thicker and denser the flocs formed, the better the quality of the biofloc system being managed.

In addition, the health condition of the tilapia is also a major focus. The Dinas and Zainal Arifin, S.Pd. recorded the daily progress of the fish, including mortality data, to ensure the sustainability of the farm. They also checked the feeding and measured the average pH of the water every day to maintain the stability of the pond environment.

This activity is part of UNIPMA's ongoing efforts to optimize biofloc technology. With strict control and regular addition of floc media, it is hoped that the quality of the cultivation ponds can continue to improve, resulting in healthier and higher quality tilapia.

Zainal Arifin, S.Pd., as the person in charge of tilapia aquaculture at UNIPMA, said that this check is very important to ensure that every aspect of aquaculture is running well. “We are greatly helped by the regular monitoring from the Food and Agriculture Service Office. With this support, we are optimistic that we can manage tilapia farming better and more sustainably,” said the man who is often called mas Zainal.

This step shows UNIPMA's commitment to managing tilapia farming in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner, while encouraging innovation in the field of fisheries biology.
