PKKMB FH UNIPMA, Preparing Students to Be Critical and Sensitive to Legal Issues
UNIPMA – The Faculty of Law (FH) at Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA) equipped 57 new students with academic understanding and character development to become critical, professional, and socially aware prospective law graduates who are sensitive to legal issues in society.
The briefing was delivered during the Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) of the Faculty of Law for the 2026/2027 Academic Year at UNIPMA Campus 3 on Thursday (10/9). The dozens of new students came from the Law Study Program.
Dean of the Faculty of Law at UNIPMA, Dr. Siska Diana Sari, S.H., M.H., together with Head of the Law Study Program Dr. Sulistya Eviningrum, S.H., M.H., and the faculty members introduced the academic environment as well as the educational direction that students will pursue throughout their studies.
Dr. Siska Diana Sari, S.H., M.H., said that students need to understand from the beginning that legal education is not limited to mastering or memorizing legal articles. They are also expected to be able to analyze issues, develop arguments, communicate effectively, and uphold professional ethics.
“Studying law is not enough if it only involves memorizing legal articles. Students must be able to think critically, develop legal arguments, communicate well, and uphold ethics,” said Dr. Siska Diana Sari, S.H., M.H.
According to her, FH UNIPMA is intended to serve as a space for students to develop into professional, ethical, and adaptable law graduates. Legal education is also expected to encourage students to use their knowledge to address legal issues emerging in society.
To support this direction, the learning process at FH UNIPMA applies an outcome-based approach, or Outcome-Based Education (OBE). Students not only receive material through lectures but are also encouraged to gain practical experience through moot court practices, research, community service, internships, student organizations, competitions, and cooperation with various partners.
Dr. Siska Diana Sari, S.H., M.H., explained that this approach is also in line with efforts to improve the quality of higher education and meet graduate learning outcomes. “Students need learning experiences that enable them to apply legal knowledge in real-life situations,” she added.
FH UNIPMA aims to develop legal education that produces graduates grounded in the values of Pancasila and Ke-PGRI-an, equipped with academic and professional competencies, and capable of competing at the national and regional levels.
In addition to academic aspects, PKKMB also introduced new students to student organizations within the Faculty of Law, including the Faculty of Law Student Association (HMFH) and Hima Hukum Yuris.
These student organizations serve as platforms for students to develop their interests, leadership skills, teamwork abilities, and organizational experience throughout their campus life.
New students were also introduced to several university facilities that can support their activities and adaptation to campus life, including student dormitories, health clinics, parking areas, and places of worship.
Through the introduction program, students are expected not only to become familiar with the campus environment but also to understand the direction of the education they will undertake from the beginning of their university studies.
