UNIPMA Lecturer Becomes International Speaker in the Philippines, Discusses Talent Management from an Indonesian Perspective

UNIPMA – Robby Sandhi Dessyarti, S.E., M.M., a lecturer in the Management Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA), became a speaker at an International Virtual Lecture with Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), Philippines, on Wednesday (26/8).

In the online lecture attended by MMSU students and lecturers, Robby Sandhi Dessyarti, S.E., M.M., presented material on Talent Management Process with Indonesian Perspectives as part of the Strategic Human Resource Management course. He discussed talent management from the planning stage to preparing future leaders.

“Talent management is not only about how organizations recruit people, but also about how they develop, retain, and place talent according to organizational needs,” he said.

The material covered seven stages, namely talent planning, talent acquisition, talent identification, talent development, performance management, talent retention, and succession planning. One of the methods introduced was the 9-Box Matrix for mapping employees based on performance and potential.

Robby Sandhi Dessyarti, S.E., M.M., also brought the Indonesian context into the discussion. According to him, the implementation of talent management needs to consider cultural characteristics, workforce conditions, and technological developments in each country.

“Talent management practices need to consider cultural contexts because the ways of communicating, building work relationships, and leading can differ in each environment,” he added.

In the presentation, Indonesia was described as having collectivist characteristics and a high power distance. These conditions make polite communication, strong work relationships, and supportive leadership important aspects to consider.

Several practices from Indonesian companies, such as Management Trainee, Leadership Academy, Talent Pool, and future leadership development programs, were introduced to the participants. Robby Sandhi Dessyarti, S.E., M.M., also discussed the use of HR Analytics and AI to help organizations identify potential, predict employee turnover, and tailor learning programs.

“Technology can serve as a tool to make talent-related decisions more data-driven, but its implementation still needs to be adapted to organizational needs,” he concluded.

Through the lecture, Robby Sandhi Dessyarti, S.E., M.M., introduced the implementation of strategic human resource management from an Indonesian perspective to MMSU participants. The material was summarized through the principle of right people, right capability, right position, right time, which emphasizes placing people with the appropriate capabilities in the right positions at the right time.
