UNIPMA Lecturer Becomes Speaker at NEUST Philippines International Webinar, Discusses Contextual Physics Learning Through Joglo Roof Architecture
UNIPMA – Ihtiari Prastyaningrum, S.Si., M.Si., a lecturer from the Electrical Engineering Study Program at Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA), served as a speaker at the international webinar titled “Bridging Innovation and Instruction: AI-Assisted Materials in Science Education,” organized by Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST), Philippines, on Saturday (July 4). The webinar focused on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in the development of science learning materials.
The webinar brought together academics from various countries, including representatives from Indonesia, the Philippines, and several partner universities. The event was officially opened online by NEUST President Rhodora R. Jugo through the University Training Department NEUST’s official Facebook livestream.
During her presentation, Ihtiari Prastyaningrum delivered a topic titled “Contextual Physics Science Learning through Javanese Joglo Architecture.” She explained how the architecture of the traditional Javanese Joglo roof can be used as a learning resource for teaching physics, particularly concepts related to mechanics, force, and energy. She also emphasized that culture should not be viewed as separate from science but rather as an essential component in understanding scientific knowledge itself.
She explained that the Joglo’s high roof structure with its optimal angle of inclination facilitates efficient rainwater runoff, while its open-space design supported by four main pillars (soko guru) promotes natural air circulation throughout the building.
“The Joglo house reflects the balance between humans and the environment. In addition to its cultural and philosophical values, its design also applies traditional engineering principles that effectively respond to climatic conditions,” she stated during her presentation.
The webinar also featured speakers from NEUST, including Dr. Alice T. Rivera, as well as Indonesian academic Eko Saputra Nurdiansa, S.Pd., M.Pd., from Universitas Muhammadiyah Kendari.
The participation of the UNIPMA lecturer in this international forum represents the implementation of the university’s Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in advancing education and disseminating scientific knowledge across borders. UNIPMA and NEUST are academic partners collaborating to strengthen international cooperation.
Through its participation in the webinar, UNIPMA reaffirmed its commitment to expanding its academic contributions on the global stage while introducing Indonesia’s local wisdom through scientific studies.
Meanwhile, admissions for the 2026/2027 Academic Year are officially open for both the Regular Program and the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Program.
