51st Dies Natalis of UNIPMA Presents Vice Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Emphasizes That Universities Must Have an Impact on the Nation

UNIPMA – Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA) held a Scientific Oration in commemoration of its 51st Dies Natalis, featuring the Vice Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., as the main speaker, on Saturday (6/6). The event, held at Graha Cendekia UNIPMA, became the peak of the Dies Natalis celebration themed “UNIPMA Excellence in Work, Impacting the Nation.”

In his oration, Prof. Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. emphasized that universities must be able to make real contributions to society through education, research, and innovation. According to him, universities are not enough to only produce quality graduates, but must also be able to provide solutions to various social problems.

“Universities must be able to provide real benefits. Campuses must be present as problem solvers to various social issues developing in society,” said Prof. Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd.

He stated that the continuity of an educational institution for decades is evidence of its ability to face changing times. According to him, UNIPMA’s 51 years of existence shows the institution’s consistency and resilience in developing.

Prof. Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. likened UNIPMA’s journey to the metamorphosis process of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly, which requires patience, hard work, and consistency before achieving greater progress.

“There is no major process that is born instantly. If we want to become a university that is recognized at the regional, national, and international levels, all academics must be optimistic and continue to move forward,” he said.

He also emphasized the importance of collaboration between universities and the business world, industry, government, and society so that research results and innovations can have a direct impact on development.

The presence of the Vice Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology was welcomed by regional leaders and education stakeholders, including the Chair of PPLP PT PGRI Madiun, the Madiun City Police Chief, the Commander of Military District 0803 Madiun, the Vice Chair II of the Madiun City DPRD, representatives of PGRI East Java, and the Madiun City Education Council.

The series of events began with an open university senate session, followed by remarks from the UNIPMA Rector and the Chair of PPLP PT PGRI Madiun before entering the main agenda of the scientific oration.

The Rector of UNIPMA, Dr. Supri Wahyudi Utomo, M.Pd., said that the presence of the Vice Minister served as motivation for all academics to continue improving the quality and contribution of the university to the nation.

According to him, UNIPMA’s 51-year journey shows significant development since its establishment in 1975 under the name IKIP PGRI East Java in Madiun. At that time, the campus only had three study programs with 26 students.

Today, UNIPMA has developed into one of the universities in the Mataraman region with four campus buildings and 30 study programs ranging from diploma, bachelor’s, to postgraduate levels.

“Over its 51-year journey, UNIPMA has achieved various strategic accomplishments. One of them is the success of 12 study programs obtaining Excellent accreditation. This is the result of the hard work of all academics,” said Dr. Supri Wahyudi Utomo, M.Pd.

The 12 study programs that have achieved Excellent accreditation include Accounting Education, English Education, Teacher Professional Education (PPG), Social Studies Education (Postgraduate), Indonesian Language and Literature Education (Postgraduate), Physics Education, Pancasila and Civic Education, Indonesian Language Education, Biology Education, Economics Education, Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD), and Mathematics Education.

In addition to strengthening academic quality, UNIPMA continues to improve human resource capacity by increasing the number of doctoral lecturers, associate professors, and professors. Currently, UNIPMA has four professors and is in the final stage of opening a Doctoral Program (S3) in Education.

Dr. Supri Wahyudi Utomo, M.Pd. stated that these achievements are an important foundation for the university to reach the target of Institutional Excellent Accreditation in 2027.

“With strengthened academic quality, human resources, and institutional governance, we are optimistic that the target of achieving Institutional Excellent Accreditation in 2027 can be realized,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Chair of PPLP PT PGRI Madiun, Dr. Nurhadji Nugraha, M.M., said that the Dies Natalis is a moment of reflection on the struggles of the founders in building and developing UNIPMA.

According to him, increasing innovation, adaptability, and mastery of science and technology must continue to be strengthened through the implementation of the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi).

In a warm atmosphere, Prof. Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. also delivered a pantun that was enthusiastically welcomed by participants. “From Jakarta taking a plane, UNIPMA is getting more excellent,” he said.

Before the peak of the Dies Natalis, UNIPMA had held various activities such as gymnastics competitions, volleyball, sarong relay races, vocal group, healthy walk, TikTok video competition promoting study programs, cosplay competition, national seminars, and the Student Sports and Arts Week (Porsema).

The Dies Natalis event was complemented by the announcement of outstanding lecturers, favorite education staff, and winners of the TikTok promotional video competition. The series of celebrations will continue with the UNIPMA Colour Run on June 21, 2026.
