UNIPMA Library Strengthens Literacy Network Through Cooperation with East Java Library and Archives Office
The Library of Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA) continues to demonstrate its commitment to strengthening literacy and developing library services. This was manifested through the presence of the UNIPMA Library at the cooperation agreement signing ceremony with the East Java Provincial Library and Archives Office, held in Surabaya yesterday, Wednesday (18/12).
This activity serves as a strategic momentum for the UNIPMA Library to expand its collaborative network with the local government, particularly in supporting the improvement of library service quality within the higher education environment. The signing of the cooperation agreement was conducted by the Head of the UNIPMA Library, Nurjanah, S.Pd., S.I.Pust., along with the Head of the East Java Provincial Library and Archives Office, Ir. Tiat S. Suwardi, M.Si..
Nurjanah, S.Pd., S.I.Pust., explained that this cooperation was realized thanks to the collaboration between higher education libraries affiliated with the Indonesian Higher Education Library Forum (FPPTI) of East Java. Through this forum, several universities, including UNIPMA, agreed to strengthen synergy with the East Java Regional Library.
“UNIPMA has been a member of FPPTI since 2010. This network allows us to support one another, whether in service development, literacy, or access to digital collections,” she stated yesterday, Wednesday (7/1).
According to her, this cooperation is a concrete step in strengthening the library's role as a center for literacy, information, and knowledge development. Through this collaboration, the UNIPMA Library is expected to optimize services, ranging from collection management and human resource development to the utilization of library information technology.
Furthermore, Nurjanah, S.Pd., S.I.Pust., mentioned that the existence of FPPTI also provides solutions for private universities in meeting the needs for e-books and e-journals, which are standard library services. Through a consortium scheme, universities can access scientific journals at a more affordable cost.
“This is a form of mutually beneficial symbiosis. Universities continue to contribute, but they also receive support so that library services can be on par,” she explained.
In addition to strengthening services, this cooperation supports the fulfillment of library accreditation instruments. The UNIPMA Library itself achieved an 'A' accreditation in 2022, with one of the assessment indicators being cooperation at the regional, national, and international levels.
“The impact is significantly felt by the students. They can access not only the UNIPMA Library collections but also have broader access to the East Java Regional Library, especially through digital services,” she added
Looking ahead, Nurjanah, S.Pd., S.I.Pust., hopes that this cooperation does not stop at the signing of the memorandum of understanding alone but is manifested through real programs, such as joint librarian training, literacy activities, and book reviews. She emphasized that the library is the heart of a university, which helps determine the quality of the institution.
Through this cooperation, the UNIPMA Library is optimistic that it can continue to contribute to supporting the Tri Dharma (Three Pillars) of Higher Education and strengthen the library's role as a strategic partner in the development of education and literacy in East Java.
