UNIPMA Applies Research Grant Outcome for 2025 BIPA Class for SEA-Teacher Participants
Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA) has officially commenced the 2025 Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) program, which is integrated into the SEA-Teacher Mobility Program. This year, five student teachers from the Philippines—three participants from Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) and two from Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU)—are attending the BIPA class before embarking on a one-month educational internship at UNIPMA's partner schools.
The 2025 BIPA class is designed as an initial preparation stage for SEA-Teacher participants before they enter the classroom. This program focuses not only on mastering basic Indonesian but also on equipping students with cultural understanding relevant to life in Madiun society.
The material covers classroom expressions, daily communication, and cultural aspects such as etiquette, local traditions, regional celebrations, and local wisdom values that often appear in an educational context.
What distinguishes this year's BIPA implementation is a more interactive and contextual cultural-task-based learning approach. UNIPMA is utilizing a book resulting from a research grant focused on developing BIPA A1 materials, titled "Indonesia: Satu Bahasa Seribu Budaya" (Indonesia: One Language, A Thousand Cultures).
This book was compiled to address the language and cultural adaptation needs of SEA-Teacher participants, particularly because the BIPA A1 book published by the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemdikbud), Sahabatku Indonesiaku, did not yet fully accommodate the local cultural context of Madiun or the needs of adult learners.
Through the utilization of this research grant outcome, UNIPMA hopes that SEA-Teacher participants can enter the school environment with greater confidence, understand the culture of the Madiun community, and establish effective communication with students and teachers.
On the other hand, this program serves as a strategic step in strengthening UNIPMA's role in international networks, while simultaneously presenting BIPA learning innovations that are more relevant, contextual, and impactful for foreign learners.
