UNIPMA and Magetan Regency Government Develop Biogas and Compost Fertilizer from Livestock Waste

Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA) has once again been entrusted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) through the Kedaireka platform to run the 2025 matching fund program. This year, a team of UNIPMA lecturers from the Biology Education Study Program — Dr. Pujiati, S.Si., M.Si., Nurul Kusuma Dewi, S.Si., M.Sc., and Dr. drh. Cicilia Novi Primiani, M.Pd. — is collaborating with the Department of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries of Magetan Regency to process livestock waste into biogas energy and bioslurry compost fertilizer.

The program focuses on two sites, namely Jabung Village and Getasanyar Village. In an interview, Dr. Pujiati explained that this biogas technology is a continuation of a previous program in Puntukdoro Village. “This year we are implementing two biogas reactors and one bioslurry fertilizer production package. The expectation is that it can be replicated more widely to address waste management issues in Magetan,” she said.

UNIPMA Rector, Dr. Supri Wahyudi Utomo, M.Pd., emphasized that this activity is concrete evidence of the university’s role in providing solutions for society. “Since 2017 we have partnered with the Magetan Regency Government. Research results must be realized in the form of practical implementations that benefit the community,” he stated.

The Deputy Regent of Magetan, Suyatni Priasmoro, welcomed this initiative and expressed hope that UNIPMA would also contribute to the development of a modern livestock market in Parang. “We want a healthy and environmentally friendly livestock market. The UNIPMA team has already proven its capability in processing livestock waste into useful products,” she said.

Through this collaboration, UNIPMA continues to demonstrate its contribution to the downstreaming of research with tangible impacts on society, while also opening opportunities for future strategic cooperation in other fields.
