GOR Wilis in Madiun City once again served as the stage for the vibrant PORSENASMA V PT PGRI 2025, especially for the karate event. The competition was officially held over two days, Tuesday to Wednesday, August 5–6, 2025, and featured 60 participants from 28 PGRI universities across the archipelago.

Yona Bayu Prasetyo, M.Or., AIFO, the event coordinator, emphasized that the karate branch wasn’t merely a showcase of technique and strength, but also a platform to strengthen connections among students from across Indonesia. “In line with the spirit of PORSENASMA, this event is not just about competition, but also about fostering camaraderie through the spirit of sportsmanship,” Yona explained.

The karate competition at PORSENASMA V PT PGRI featured two main categories: kata and kumite. Some matches went straight to the finals on the first day, while the rest were scheduled for the second day — a format offering athletes ample rest time between bouts.

Match quality was maintained through the involvement of referees and judges holding licenses from top governing bodies: WKF (World Karate Federation), AKF (Asian Karate Federation), and national-level certifications.

This ensured that the karate competition upheld professional standards and integrity.

“We hope that in the future, participation in the karate branch will continue to grow. The enthusiasm has been extraordinary, but what’s needed now is broader access,” added Yona Bayu Prasetyo, M.Or., AIFO.

Embracing the theme “Compete Fairly, Unite Closely,” the karate competition at PORSENASMA V PT PGRI became a platform for developing resilient, accomplished young individuals who uphold the ethics of sports.
