The petanque competition, part of the National Student Sports and Arts Week (PORSENASMA) V for PGRI Universities, officially took place on Tuesday, 05/08/2025, at the petanque field in front of the Integrated Laboratory of UNIPMA, Madiun City. A total of 88 athletes from 13 PGRI universities across Indonesia participated in this prestigious competition, which is one of the new sports featured and was met with great enthusiasm.

Mislan Sasono, S.Pd.Si., M.Pd., as the person in charge of the match, stated that this year’s petanque tournament was held with the support of dozens of sponsors, including banks, national companies, and PT KAI. Among them were Bank BNI, Bank BTN, Bank BRI, Bank Jatim, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, PT Galaksi Inovasi Kreatif, PT Digital Niaga Nusantara, PT Lintas Data Prima, Pocari Sweat, Nestle Purelife, Indosat and Tri, along with many other sponsors who supported the overall organization of PORSENASMA V PT PGRI.

In addition, all referees or technical delegates (TDs) assigned to the event were directly delegated by the East Java Provincial Board of the Indonesian Petanque Sports Federation (FOPI), ensuring the competition was conducted professionally and according to national standards.

“The field used has been specially designed with five lanes, consisting of four competition lanes and one shooting lane. Our main venue is located in front of the Integrated Lab of UNIPMA,” he explained.

The competition system adhered to the official rules of FIPJP and FOPI, and was adjusted to the general guidelines in the Technical Handbook (THB) of PORSENASMA V PT PGRI. The tournament format included a round-robin preliminary round followed by a knockout stage. The duration of each match in the preliminary round up to the quarter-finals was limited to 45 minutes plus 1 jack, while semifinals and finals had no time limit, with a maximum score of 13 points.

The competition schedule spanned four days. On the first day, Tuesday (5/8), the men’s shooting and women’s singles events were contested. This was followed on Wednesday (6/8) by the women’s shooting and men’s singles. Thursday (7/8) featured the preliminary rounds of the men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. The semifinals and finals were scheduled for Friday (8/8), which also served as the closing moment and awarding ceremony for the champions.

Observations at the venue showed high enthusiasm from both participants and spectators. The Rector of UNIPMA, Dr. Supri Wahyudi Utomo, M.Pd., was present to witness the matches, accompanied by the Chairperson of PB PGRI, Prof. Dr. Unifah Rosyidi, M.Pd. The presence of these figures added spirit and motivation to the athletes competing in a competitive atmosphere while upholding sportsmanship.

With strict regulations and a well-structured match system, the petanque competition at PORSENASMA V UNIPMA reflected the committee’s strong commitment to ensuring high-quality competition while promoting this sport more broadly within PGRI university communities across Indonesia.
