Basic Scout Leadership Course at UNIPMA Equips 225 Students to Become Prospective Scout Leaders

Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA), through the Scout Movement Front Group 01.097–01.098 Racana Pangeran Timoer–Retno Djumilah, successfully held the Basic Scout Leadership Course (KMD) for 225 students. This activity took place over four days, from July 26–29, 2025, at UNIPMA Campus 1 and the Kampir Field area in Kanigoro. The KMD was held as a form of preparation for prospective scout leaders who are ready to go into the field, especially for students who aim to become teachers.

This KMD was attended by all 4th-semester students of the Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) Program, make-up participants from the 6th semester, and members of the UNIPMA Scout Student Activity Unit (UKM Pramuka). The activity is part of the PGSD Program's curriculum as a Final Semester Exam (UAS) for the Scouting course, directly synergized with the UNIPMA Scout UKM to strengthen practical and implementative skills in the field of scouting.

The event was officially opened by the Head of the Madiun City Scout Branch (Ka Kwarcab), Mr. Suyoto, S.IP, who also emphasized the importance of character education through the scout movement. Also present at the opening ceremony were Dr. Elva Nuraina, SE., M.Si (Vice Rector for Academic Affairs), Dr. Sardulo Gembong, M.Pd (Dean of FKIP UNIPMA), Dr. Endang Sri Maruti, M.Pd (Head of PGSD Program), UNIPMA lecturers, and trainers from the Canda Bhirawa Branch Training Center (Pusdiklatcab) of Madiun City.

In an interview, Langga, as the Chairperson of the Scout UKM Racana Pangeran Timoer–Retno Djumilah, stated that the first day of the KMD was filled with course orientation, a pre-test, group dynamics, and fundamental scouting materials based on the Siaga (Cub Scout) and Penggalang (Junior Scout) levels. At night, participants received materials on scout leader posture, PDK, and MK until late evening.

On the second day, Sunday (27/7), participants engaged in morning exercise and drill training (PBB) with members of Yonif 501, followed by materials on the methods of leading, unit organization and administration, and General Proficiency Requirements (SKU). In the evening, they deepened their understanding of SKU, SKK & SPG, and training program development techniques.

On Monday (28/7), the day began with morning gymnastics followed by practical sessions on leading scouts until noon. In the afternoon session, participants learned about various scouting meetings and ceremonies. The evening was enlivened by a bonfire ceremony and art performances. In this performance segment, class PGSD 4A won first place, followed by PGSD 4G in second place, and the Scout UKM in third place.

The last day, Tuesday (29/7), was filled with outdoor activities at the Kampir Field in Kanigoro. Outbound games and educational play enhanced the participants’ spirit and teamwork.

The entire KMD series was concluded with a closing ceremony in rooms A311–A314, led by the Secretary of the Madiun City Scout Branch, Mr. Slamet Hariyadi, and attended directly by Dr. Supri Wahyudi Utomo, M.Pd (Rector of UNIPMA).

Andista Candra Yusro, S.Pd., M.Pd., as the event coordinator, stated that this KMD was the result of collaboration between UNIPMA and the Madiun City Scout Branch. “The main goal of this activity is to equip prospective Scout Leaders with the knowledge, skills, and basic attitudes needed to guide students at the front group level,” he said.

A great hope was expressed through this activity: that participants would improve their competencies in leading scouts and understand scouting methods as essential preparation, especially for those who will become teachers. With this comprehensive preparation, it is hoped that capable and dedicated young scout leaders will emerge to shape the character of the nation’s next generation.
