Synergy Between Student Organizations at UNIPMA’s Faculty of Law Realized Through Community Service in Bangunsari, Madiun
The synergy between student organizations at the Faculty of Law, PGRI Madiun University (UNIPMA), was once again demonstrated through real action. The Law Study Program Student Association (HMPS Yuris), in collaboration with the Faculty of Law Student Association (HMFH), held a Community Service (Abdimas) activity in Bangunsari Subdistrict, Mejayan District, Madiun Regency, on Monday, June 30, 2025.
Carrying the theme “We Protect, the Earth is Preserved: Legal Education on Environmental Law (Waste and Garbage) and Household Waste Utilization for the Community,” the activity aimed to raise public awareness of environmental law while also educating residents on how to utilize household waste through both theoretical and hands-on approaches.
The event began with a legal awareness session at the Bangunsari Village Hall, followed by early environmental education at SD Negeri 01 Bangunsari (a local elementary school). The event's coordinator, Arjuna Arya Pribadi Putra, explained that the program was designed to reduce the risk of legal violations related to environmental damage, particularly in waste and household garbage management.
“In addition, we want to encourage public awareness on waste utilization and promote self-sufficiency in planting, as a response to climate issues and current economic challenges,” said Arjuna on Saturday, July 5, 2025.
The event was also attended by faculty delegates from UNIPMA’s Faculty of Law, including the Dean, Dr. Siska Diana Sari, S.H., M.H.; Head of the Law Study Program, Dr. Sulistya Eviningrum, S.H., M.H.; Faculty Advisor Bintang Ulya Kharisma, S.H., M.Kn.; and several other lecturers.
Community leaders were also present to strengthen the collaboration. These included Bangunsari Village Head Suratmi, S.H.; Head of the Madiun Forestry Branch Office Mujianto, S.P.; and Chair of the Sustainable Food Garden (P2L), Kurnia Fibia Wati.
During the material presentation session, Dr. Sulistya Eviningrum, S.H., M.H., gave an in-depth explanation of environmental legal regulations, especially those concerning waste and garbage management.
Meanwhile, Kurnia Fibia Wati delivered a presentation on the utilization of household waste, the importance of self-sufficient planting, and the strengthening of the Climate Village Program (ProKlim) as part of a community-based climate change mitigation initiative.
Appreciation for the students' initiative also came from Mujianto, S.P., who expressed his support for the collaborative effort and hoped that similar activities would continue sustainably in the future.
Echoing the sentiment, Suratmi, S.H., also expressed her gratitude for the implementation of this program, stating that environmental legal education is very relevant for the Bangunsari community, where many residents are involved in micro and small enterprises (UMKM).
“This education is crucial to raise awareness about waste management, and hopefully it can help reduce waste volume at local disposal sites,” she stated.
In addition to educational sessions, the community service event also included compost-making workshops and a communal planting activity at the Bangunsari P2L (Sustainable Food Garden) area. As a symbol of the green movement, participants distributed plants to residents under the concept “1 Plant per Neighborhood Unit (RT),” aiming to promote collective participation in environmental greening.
The activity also received support from the Head of the Madiun Branch of the Forestry Office. It is hoped that this program will not only provide direct benefits to the people of Bangunsari but also spark broader environmental awareness and responsibility within the community.
